Great Atmosphere, Overpriced Mediocre Food

We dined at La Palapa our 2nd night. It was such a romantic spot with a great acoustical guitar player in the bar. We should have stayed in the bar. The food was average. I ordered the Filet Mignon. It was the tinyest and blandest filet I've ever seen - perched precariously on top of a equally tiny portion of mashed potatoes, smothered with something that tasted remarkably like Swanson's beef gravy. My girlfriend had the prawns - the four prawns were presented beautifully on the plate and were tasty but I think the camarones from the beach vendors were better an 1/10 the price. They also asked us if we wanted soup or salad. We both ordered salad. I guess I should have noticed that it was al a carte but at the price I paid for the entree I assumed it was included. I've eaten at many fine restaurants and I don't mind paying for the privelege but I don't like to get hosed. Substandard food in a wonderful atmosphere. Next time I will stay in the bar for a Spanish Coffee which was quite a show.

Decent food, great service and atmosphere

This place is a treat. We had dinner on the beach with the sunset over the water. Remarkable atmosphere. The food was ok for the price. The service was great as we had many waiters in and out helping us with anything we asked, especially with pictures we were trying to take as the sun was setting. Would go back just for the atmosphere and sunset.

Beautiful spot

La Palapa has been around for years and has a great reputation. It is beautiful. We got to watch the sunset over the ocean, fireworks to the north and enjoy a Mariachi band playing at a birthday at a nearby table. The service was very good, but the food was a bit disappointing. Awesome mussels, but heavy overpowering sauces on our fish entrees were a little disappointing. A bit overpriced, we thought.

We have been going here for years and it was a charming place to eat, but after they rebuilt it after the huricane a couple of years ago it doesn't have the charm and the food isn't as good and the prices have gone up, we won't be back....
